With the rapidly approaching Bicentennial of the War of 1812, “The Society of the War of 1812 in the State of Iowa” is asking the Governor of the State of Iowa and the mayor of each municipality to consider making a proclamation to declare each June 18 as “The War of 1812 Remembrance Day” and urge all citizens to become more knowledgeable of the role the War of 1812 played in the history of our great nation and the citizens of the state of Iowa.
